Bolot Temirov, an investigative reporter with Kyrgyz and Russian dual nationality, who is shortlisted for the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Prize for Independence was arrested during a court hearing in Bishkek on 23 November and deported to Russia. RSF calls on the Kyrgyz authorities to return Temirov’s passports and to put a stop to their growing attacks on the media in Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyz lawmakers, media outlets, and rights activists have called for the government to repeal its decision to block the websites of RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service, known locally as Radio Azattyk, saying it has cast a shadow over the country.
The Russian-appointed governor of Ukraine's Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, said on October 27 that more than 70,000 people have left the region's capital, the strategic city of Kherson, as heavy fighting between Russian forces and advancing Ukrainian troops continue.
