The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State notes the decision by the Department of Labour to close the Medfontein Building in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality following serious safety concerns. The DA urges the Department of Transport and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to investigate the faults that led to the closure of the Medfontein building in Bloemfontein. The Free State Department of Transport Abnormal loads office in the Medfontein building was closed due to allegedly illegal electrical wiring that led to electricity spontaneously tripping, lights bursting and air conditioners tripping at random. Upon inspection, the wiring was found hanging outside the walls, DB boards were incorrectly installed, and light switches were hanging from the walls.
