which got the information from the plane, which is not communicating from anyone, but got interrogation from the plane s acars system, so they can pin point it s in the south indian ocean and know there s no chance it went to land anywhere. what would make it go south, what would make it make that turn? yeah, and that is just nobody can guess, really. but i do think that enough passed digging into the pilot and copilot, it s slow work and will need to go on with that, but i wonder if everyone was too quick to dismiss the idea of some other catastrophe happening in the plane, mechanical problem, or could be smoke, could be decompression, something like that. and also, you could say they are
you know there are conflicting reports from malaysia, are you convinced? i am hopeful that we are on the right track. i feel we are moving in the right direction. the most disturbing thing for you is the silence in the cockpit, explain? absolutely. my training, i have been checked many, many times and all of the years of flying, one of the main things you do. aviate and navigate and communicate. those are separate but they are close to one another when you have an emergency situation. you do fly the airplane and navigate and in trouble, you announce the fact that you are in distress and if they had a a mechanical problem they would
data now shows more conclusively or probably whatever the terms are that this is at the bottom of the indian ocean or do you want to see more? as an investigator i always want to see more. investigators use tried and true methodologies and procedures. that s based on years and years of experience and crashes and investigating these. but we are always looking for new ways to hone our skills to improve and expedite this process. so, i would always like to see more and that s going to continue on with positively identifying this wreckage, the debris, and then finding it at the bottom of the ocean. hank, anything peculiar about the 777? flew it for a long time. almost 20 years old. everybody loves it but these design defects can surface sometimes unexpectedly, mechanical problem or hostage takeover or anything. anything odd about this plane to you? no.
save an aircraft because of some type of mechanical problem onboard the aircraft. there are still some questions that i have about being able to get communications outside of the airplane. but, again, i think at this point it s it would be nice to have a little few more of the pieces put together. but we also have to now take a look at the fact that if that aircraft went down to 12,000 feet, that the fuel that would be onboard the aircraft, it would have used a lot more fuel. so where along that ring of where the pingers would have come out could that airplane be? now we may be searching in the wrong place. mr. weiss, what are you questions about communications? my question would be, during the procedure, you d want to communicate to air traffic control that you ve turned off your airway. that you re declaring an emergency. what your intentions are. and particularly if it s a fire onboard the aircraft or some
disclosing it, does that now pique your interest as a possibility of what went on here. not as much at this point in time. i have trouble getting around the conversation of the pilots. sothat this sequence this started sometime before that calm communication. meaning at probably 1:07. this conversation was at 1:19. all right. good night. but at 1:o07 the acar system was turned off. the communication system. right, right, right. is that what catches your attention? yeah. absolutely. if there was some sort of mechanical problem, some sort of a fire, there is enough time there for these guys to be aware of it and, in my view, and, you know, i think the calmness of the pilot just really the co-pilot just really jumps out at me. hank, if all of a sudden there is smoke and you are not even intend to have a conversation with air traffic control litany. if i turned to by my co-pilot oh my god there is smoke in here even if i
