A Nova Scotia prosecutor who specializes in workplace safety cases says the legacy of the disaster goes far beyond the Westray law, which some unions have criticized as being underused.
A Nova Scotia Supreme Court justice has more than doubled the fine on former Dartmouth garage owner Elie Hoyeck for the death of an employee. As the result of an appeal, Hoyeck now faces a fine of $67,500 and 100 hours of community service.
