Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan, bustling Muskegon offers the best of both worlds. Over 25 miles of gorgeous beaches butt up against a bustling city, with mouth watering restaurants, shopping, museums and more to explore. Two Muskegon spots were top finishers in our search for Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot.

Clearly, we love going to the northern parts of our state. The Northern Lower Peninsula, and the Upper Peninsula have been getting lots and lots of love, and with good reason. Well, Michiganders, we know where you’re headed this summer: “Up North.”
We asked you this week to nominate Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot, and you responded with an overwhelming number of destinations for Northern Michigan.
The Northern Lower Peninsula led the way with 62 nominations.
The Upper Peninsula was next with 37.
With a total of 132 nominations, that’s 75 percent of your nominations for places “Up North.”

Our search for Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot is underway, and we’ve gotten suggestions for amazing places to visit from all over the state. Well, to be honest, mostly from the Northern Lower Peninsula and the beautiful Upper Peninsula, but a few scattered from across the rest of the state as well.
To get a little background on what might happen this summer in Michigan, we went straight to the source for all things Michigan travel, Dave Lorenz, vice president of Pure Michigan. He shared with us his thoughts on reopening, as well as what is on his Michigan travel bucket list for this summer, in a podcast that you can listen to below.

Simply put, “Up North just means summer vacation time” in Michigan, said reader Chris Jones of Rockford.
“No matter where ‘Up North’ is to you, it’s where you want to be in the summer,” said Jones, a father of two who is the controller at Rockford Package Supply. “It’s where you want to be in the summer..We all love going Up North!”
