COVID-19 testing event scheduled at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center

Victorville Daily Press Public health officials will conduct free COVID-19 testing at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center on Saturday, Feb. 6, following the opening of a week-long appointment window.  The testing provided by San Bernardino County is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 6. Those who attend are not required to have symptoms before receiving a test. Face masks are required at all times during the event. Appointments recommended County officials, in a flier, said appointments were “highly recommended” due to a high demand for testing. As a result, Walk-ins may experience longer wait times. The appointment window opens Saturday, Jan. 30, according to Lucerne Valley Economic Development Association President Chuck Bell, who emphasized that the event is not for vaccinations.

KING OF THE HAMMERS TICKET SALES DOWN 90%

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, ticket sales for the 14 th annual King of the Hammers race, set to begin this weekend, are down 90 percent. A King of the Hammers spokesman said that while 482 drivers have registered for the race, 1,500 spectator tickets had been sold at the time the permit was approved January 14. A spokesman said ticket sales are down 90 percent and people are encouraged to stay home. In years past, 50,000 to 60,000 spectators have attended King of the Hammers. Organizers say that 80% of attendees will test for COVID-19 at home prior to arriving; the rest will be tested onsite. In addition, masks and social distancing will be required. King of the Hammers crawls on in Johnson Valley despite COVID-19 pandemic Victorville Daily Press The coronavirus pandemic will not thwart the annual running of the King of the Hammers, one of the largest off-road racing events in the country.  The King of the Hammers 2021  a weeklong frenzy of desert racing and rock crawling in Johnson Valley  begins Jan. 28 and continues through Feb. 6. Despite a total of 251,213 total COVID-19 cases in San Bernardino County as of Sunday, racers and fans are scheduled to converge at Means Dry Lake to enter Hammertown a pop-up city  erected as part of the event.
