hi, nicole, thanks a lot. special counsel jack smith is calling mike pence s bluff, in their view, and trying to force him under oath in a grand jury. more on that later. plus, the top investigator for the january 6th committee is speaking out on that big new york times story that was making waves. you might have seen it. he s here. he make his beat debut later in the hour. top story now is how republicans are using their power in the house. we saw kevin mccarthy clash with those hardliners, and during those clashes when he had to get all the votes on the house floor, he promised all kinds of concessions, including promoting what was then his most ardent foe to a committee to look into fbi investigations and attacking the fbi and doj. and that itself is a shift in washington s power dynamics. this is a story i m about to tell you. for decades, members in both parties lobbied to get on committees like appropriations, controlling money. some sought prestigious assignmen
let alone the safety of his colleagues in the capitol, if it s considered that at all. mccarthy is literally already fundraising off this gambit, giving the stuff to tucker. he s trying to publicly link himself closer to tucker carlson. now, you might stop and say, okay, ari, but aren t top republicans always tight with fox news hosts? why would the republican speaker, who s the top republican in government right now, need to further that alliance? well, again, the answer s in the evidence. you can t assume fox hosts and republican politicians are tight, even if they might publicly admit they vote the same way a twist, carlson has been blasting mccarthy as a republican in name only, telling viewers mccarthy is a puppet of the republican party. he also calls him a democrat or msnbc analyst or d.c. lobbyist
together and how they should be cut. you laid out such an incredible indictment of this speakership and the gentleman who holds the chair because it really is at its core about i want to power, give me the power, what do i have to do to get it, and what do i have to do to keep it? as has been reported, mccarthy s admitted, yeah, yeah, i promised tuckums i would do this, that i would giver over this footage. so what else has been promised? i mean, i think we should all be bracing for that, because there s more of this to come. i also find it very curious. clearly these two individuals don t speak to each other, meaning tucker and mccarthy, because mccarthy on january 6th said, i condemn that.
those checks. you re going to see a lag over the next two to three weeks after that in donations coming in from small dollar donors particularly. the larger donors, the mega donors, they re not watching fox per se. some do, but they re not taking tucker seriously. they re playing a different game. so tucker s universe is oriented around a couple of things. one, i don t need not tucker, but mccarthy s universe is around, i don t need tucker mad at me, right. he doesn t like that chyron there. that s a bad day for kevin mccarthy. where as everybody else go, this poor fool he doesn t get it. and ignore him. but he can t ignore him. it ties into too many other things, money being one of them and power sustaining that power is the other. you say sustaining that power, which has become a cycle of lies. if you want to be as historically broad as possible,
tucker was just like, these are just tourists. what are you talking about? these are just tourists. so which is it? were they just tourists or terrorists? the courts, to your point, answered. they convicted the sedition. so people can have their take, their gloss, but both the physicality of what happened which is on tape, now more of those tapes in tucker s exclusive possession, and the legality of what happened if we live in a nation of laws they said, if that s a convicted murder, that s in self-defense. whether or not you agree with it, they claim to be reporting over there. i m curious what you think of the politics as we show, because not everyone may remember that mccarthy actually is trying to move tucker closer to him. he apparently thinks of all the issues in the world, this is the one to win tucker over. do you agree with that analysis? and why do you think he thinks
