inches across houston before it is all said and done. upwards of 12 plus million americans under flooding alerts. and we ll watch the progression of this because we do expect this to be a high risk day. that tmagenta color you see tha at 4% on high risk days and that is responsible for about 40% of fatalities. and we know that this sort of a setup was in place across portions of the northeast where we had remnants of ida bringing with it tremendous rainfall and the concern is of course houston another major metro area quite a bit of assault, quite a bit of concrete and a lot of these structures certainly won t be able to take on the amount of water the system has to offer. and notice it kind of meanders here for a couple days and gradually shifts into portions of louisiana which is just another area that we don t need
but so far, in the past 24 hours as it has sit there just offshore, it has brought down about 10-plus inches of rainfall. maybe up to 20 inches could be seen other the next few hours as this pushes over land, and potentially kind of meanders here through at least the next 24 to 36 hours. about 12 million people here are going to be underneath flood alerts stretching through really the entirety of southern louisiana into most, if not all, of the coastal region of texas. you know, harris county in houston s very prone to flooding so this is going to be something we ll follow over the next few hours. don. not good, considering what just happened there um with ida. thank you, pedram. i appreciate it. we ll be watching. and tomorrow night, make sure you tune into cnn s special coverage of california governor recall. it starts at 10:00 p.m. and i am going to be on covering right call really late or really early starting for those of you on the west coast. and hopefully, you on the east
its sights. that s why we have a hurricane warning in effect for portions of long island and also portions of connecticut. you ll notice here that the entire state of connecticut is under some sort of warning, either tropical storm warning or hurricane warning, that s i insane. new york city, you re under a tropical storm warning at the moment and this is because all of the conditions are just going to go downhill within the next 36 hours. and we expect tropical storm to hurricane force conditions within the next 36 hours. according to the national hurricane center s latest trek, we re going to look at a storm at or near category 1 hurricane status come noon or 2:00 in the afternoon on sunday making landfall. from there, it pushes north and meanders around new england for 24 hours. anytime you have a slow-moving tropical system like that you re going to have a lot of landfall in very short order which is exactly what we see here. the models are in really good agreement now that we are
been an underestimate. the projections capture much what have we have talked about, the basic fittics of heat, and the fact that you would see more heat and more drought. the basic physics that a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture. and so you get heavy rain that leads to flooding. what the models don t capture is how the jet stream is being affected by in a warmer world the jet stream gets slower and takes deeper meanders. it causes weather systems to become stuck in place. that s how you get the very hot temperatures and the very bad floods. but there is a lot we can do about this. we know what to do. we can do it. we have to transition quickly to clean, renewable energy. and we have ideas on how to do that. we have the technology. it s cheap. it s good for our health. it s actually the cheapest new source of energy. susan hassle we will have you back and go if urg into those kinds of things what we can do
the administration blames it on the president saying, everybody calm down waiting. not going into military action is not weakness but strength. we want to see if it works out, and if it works out, that s great. if it doesn t work out, that s great. in the end it always works out, whether it s now or in three weeks. it doesn t make any difference. but i think the strong person s approach and the thing that does show strength would be showing a little bit of restraint. much easier to do it the other way. it s much easier. and iran knows if they misbehave, they re on borrowed time. the president meanders sometimes in his language which is his way, but that is trump. that is, don t push me. i don t want to start military confrontation. i m going to meet with my advisers today. everybody calm down. i think the problem the president finds himself in on the issue of iran is he tends to
