Waltham s homebound vaccine program starts this week

A homebound vaccine program a partnership between the city’s department of health and fire department begins this week.
Starting on Wednesday, April 7, homebound individuals in the city will be visited by nursing staff who will administer vaccines.
“I think it s really important to increase access to folks who don’t have the accessibility,” said Meaghan Ritcey, public health nurse for Waltham. “They’re especially isolated being at home relying on family so I think it is super important, as important as it is for everybody else.”
Ritcey doesn’t foresee many complications but the challenges that come with vaccination include are all about timing, refrigeration, and adhering to the steps of whatever vaccine is allocated for the program.
