Girls Hoops: CHS, Quincy, UC lose; Bronson pulls out thrilling win at Springport

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It was another tough night for the Coldwater Lady Cardinals as they lost at Parma Western 42-18 in an Interstate 8 girls basketball game at Parma. The Panthers took another step towards the conference title with the win. They are 10-0 in the Interstate 8 and lead Jackson Northwest by two games with three conference games left. They never let Coldwater get into Tuesday’s game as they built leads of 10-5 after the first quarter and 24-11 at halftime. They outscored the Cardinals 18-7 in the second half. Jayla Foster led Coldwater with six points while Allison Miller had four points, six rebounds and three steals and Brooke Moore had four points and three steals. Parma Western also won the freshman game 39-19. There was no junior varsity game played.

Scholar-Athlete Award Recipients Announced In Class C & D EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has selected 10 student-athletes from Class C and D member schools to receive scholarships through the MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award program. Students applying for the Scholar-Athlete Award must be carrying at least a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) grade-point average and have previously won a letter in a varsity sport in which the Michigan High School Athletic Association sponsors a postseason tournament. Other requirements for the applicants were to show active participation in other school and community activities and produce an essay on the importance of sportsmanship in educational athletics.

Photo courtesy of Bronson Community Schools EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Bronson High School senior Meagan Lasky is one of ten student-athletes from Class C and D member schools who have received $1,000 scholarships through the Michigan High School Athletic Association/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award program. Lasky played four seasons of varsity volleyball, is playing her fourth of varsity basketball and will play her second of varsity soccer in the spring. She has earned multiple all-state honors for volleyball as well as all-league honors in basketball, and served as captain of both teams. Lasky helped the 2017 and 2018 volleyball teams to Class C/Division 3 championships. She has also earned numerous academic honors and is serving her fourth year as student council secretary.

Bronson beaten by Monroe St. Mary in VB Quarterfinals

Photo courtesy of MWC s Sean Watson WHITMORE LAKE, MI (WTVB) – Top-ranked and defending state champion Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central was just to much for Bronson on Tuesday night as they defeated the Vikings three games to nothing by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 in the MHSAA Division Three Girls Volleyball Quarterfinals. The state volleyball tournament resumed on Tuesday night following a two month pause of high school sports in the State of Michigan in an effort to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The first game was tied 13-13 before Monroe St. Mary closed out the game with a 10-2 run.
