A mystery bidder made the eight-figure offer for partially built Cartograf plant in Meadowville Technology Park, though a judge must first approve the sale as part of a legal dispute with a lender and contractor.
Lawsuits filed by the $65 million project's general contractor and led to the court ordering an auction. But the company that was supposed to occupy the building is pushing back.
The auction is the latest twist for the Cartograf project, which was announced in 2019 in conjunction with the Ralph Northam administration and Chesterfield County.
The campus will be developed in phases on 120 acres in the Meadowville Technology Park. The first phase will be a 100,000-square-foot vertical farm that’ll be used to grow Driscoll’s strawberries.
Plenty Unlimited Inc., a San Francisco-based company, has begun construction on a vertical indoor farming campus that, when completed, is expected to be the largest such operation in the world.
