BRADFORD’S haematology and oncology services have moved into a new home, which is officially being opened today. The new unit - ‘The Meadows Unit’ - is based at Eccleshill Community Hospital, part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and houses haematology and oncology outpatients’ clinics and an oncology day unit in refurbished surroundings. The Trust’s Chief Executive, Mel Pickup, and one of the service’s longest standing patients will officially open the unit. She said: “A large, dedicated area has been totally transformed, fully re-decorated and renovated and specially designed with all the comforts of our patients in mind. This is really going to make a big difference for our patients.”
BRADFORD Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust had its patients in mind when it officially opened its new haematology and oncology unit at Eccleshill Community Hospital today. Patient Ellen Allen, who has been attending the trust’s oncology clinic every two weeks since being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016, said: “The new Meadows Unit is absolutely lovely; really bright and cheerful and it will make a real difference. But the service is more than just its surroundings. It’s the team here who look after me that’s absolutely brilliant. Staff are so supportive and they make me feel part of their team.”

A gobbler track along a dirt road. The only wild turkey sign Peter Updike, a long-time turkey hunter from Florida’s Lake County, had seen in three days of camping and hunting at Osceola Wildlife Management Area. Updike, not the least bit deterred by a challenging hunt, went back the next day, set up and harvested a mature gobbler.
“Having my efforts pay off – scouting, being patient and finding those areas on the WMA where others weren’t hunting – gave me a huge sense of accomplishment,” Updike said. “I really enjoy putting my skills to the test on a WMA.”
