former boss, it s not the only factor returning to the question of scheduling. there s this from trump attorney lena ha bah, undercutting the argument that they and their client need time to prepare. what is he going to have to be prepped for? the truth? you don t have to prep much when you ve done nothing wrong. so, that, i m not concerned with. sara murray joins us now with more. let s talk about georgia. mark meadows on the stand. tell us about that and the rest of the hearing, sara. it s pretty remarkable that mark meadows took the stand under oath because he s kept such a low profile during all these investigations into donald trump until he became a codefendant. and also just because it s risky when you re a criminal defendant to go under oath. but in this case, meadows team needs to make the case that the actions he was taking were part of his official duties when he was the white house chief of staff. so, as he s being questioned both by prosecutors and his own attorneys,
meadows is not the only one who is looking to have this case removed, moved to a federal court. so i think when you look at the strategy from meadows team, it s a big, gamble because he is a defendant in a criminal matter, putting him on the stand opened up to cross-examination. but the idea here, this is according to meadows team, that federal law prohibits states from prosecuting u.s. officials who are carrying out their official duties. they can get it moved to federal court, they will try to argue that meadows is immune to the charges against. tim they re also trying to draw on a more diverse jury pool than the heavily democratic fulton county. and so i think people are going to be watching, i think, the judges decision here very closely. and saying a very broad interpretation of the scope of a chief of staff to say i am just a gatekeeper, almost positioning themselves
is looking to have this case removed to a federal court. so, i think when you look at the laguerre strategy from meadows team yes, it s a big gamble because he s a defendant in a criminal matter putting him on the stand, open them up to cross-examination. but, the idea here, this is according to meadows s team is that federal law prohibits states from prosecuting u.s. officials who are carrying out their official duties, and so if they can get it moved to federal courts, they will try and argue that meadows is immune to the charges against him. they re also trying to draw on a more diverse jury pool than the heavily democratic fulton county. i think people are going to be watching the judges associated very closely and see of that charge burns true you might see some of the other codefendants trying to follow suit. it is a very broad interpretation of the scope of a chief of staff to just say, i m just the gatekeeper, almost positioning himself as secretary, i had to be on every meetin
you how difficult this case is going to be. you have 19 defendants, including the former president, white house officials, former justice department officials. you re seeing sort of the unraveling and the likelihood we re actually going to see a trial, even though sydney powell and kenneth chesboro. sidney powell and john eastman, they save they want a speedy trial. they might get it. what do you think that might look like if they are being tried or tried together. it s their right to demand a speedy trial. if they go to trial earlier, i think that s going to be a benefit for the trump team, meadows team to see what is the evidence the prosecutors are putting forward, what is the theory and weaknesses on cross and game plan from seeing this evidence put forth.
