republican congressman. we will wear that any members of congress had [inaudible] mr. gates and mr. brooks mr. gates was the first to ask for a pardon. [inaudible] i m sorry. the only reason i know to ask for a pardon is because you think you have committed a crime. the president is getting very agitated and he said, people tell me i should just get rid of both of you and change the leadership, put jeff clarke in, maybe something will finally get done. i thought that it was [inaudible] how does the president even know mr. clark? i said, so suppose i do the, suppose i replace him, replace with [inaudible] jeff clark. what would you do? i said, mr. president, i would rather resign immediately. stephanie ruhle, all here for our special primetime recap of the fifth day of the january 6th hearings. good evening from msnbc headquarters, i m rachel. i am joined here by my beloved colleagues lawrence o donnell, nicole wallace, joy reid, ari melber. and if that s
can be less than candid and they still at the end of its not get what they want? well, he can certainly try to be less than candid. i mean his challenges. once you re testifying, you re under oath. you re subject to potential perjury charges, and jack smith and his team have collected a lot of information. they ve talked to a lot of people. they have all of the fruits of the labors of the january 6th committee and then their own investigation. so even though there might be some things that mark meadows is the only person who knows them they still will have heard about conversations that mark meadows had with trump from a lot of other people, including cassidy hutchinson, so it s pretty big risk for him to try not to be forthcoming in response to direct questions when you re questioners know a lot about this stuff already before you even get there they come asking , knowing the other side of the text messages, and they have other the other side of many of these conversations that they r

the committee is not naming these lawmakers at this time, as our investigation is ongoing. if we could cue the first graphic. this one reads, on january 6th, 2021 vice president mike pence as president of the senate should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all. you can see why this is so critical to ask mr. meadows about. yesterday congressman jordan revealed that he was the one who sent that to meadows. so the guy touting the very same playbook the former president was pushing mike pence to spearhead, the ranking member of the house judiciary committee, fronting for a legal fig leaf to cover an attempted coup. the same jim jordan who s rarely at a loss for words unless the question concerns his conversations with the former president that day, something you would think he might remember. on january 6th did you speak
