storms threatening the west coast. 17 million people across california and nevada are under flood watches. the storm is known as an atmospheric river, basically a fire hose of water. the big concern, flooding from rising rivers and melting snowpack. the ground is already saturated from weeks of heavy rainfall. look at oakland. parts of the interstate shut down because of flooding. east of oakland, the roof of a dollar store collapsed from the wait of the rain on top of the snow still there from earlier storms. the store said to be a total loss. the good news, no one was hurt. evacuation warnings are in effect for five central california counties. officials are telling people to move to higher ground now. we re covering this from all angles. nick watt is just outside san jose. let s go to we ll start with nick. nick, what are you seeing there? reporter: victor, we re seeing a lot of water here in felton. we re a little bit up river from santa cruz. as you can see, if you
quite a while. very cheerful. jake, this obviously the president said he ll veto this. the reality is it s largely irrelevant and not decided in congress and putting republicans in the senate in a tough spot. it does. you could tell my mcconnell to read the tea leaves one of my favorite parlor games. that is to me mcconnell saying on this one we have to unfortunately let the chips fall where they may and people vote how they need to vote and i won t strong arm anybody. that s how i read that. i think senate republicans, the sense i got and the body language, maybe you got a different one, it was the white house can t really do anything on this issue to say, on this one follow us because they followed the senate republicans followed the white house on nearly every other issue and this is a precedent setting issue where congress feels like i think a lot of republicans feel like, okay, we need to put
precedent for if the president is sued this time around? yeah. i would think so. and i think ultimately this issue is not going away, unfortunately. this is a long tail whether it s from the court case or spending fights to come. if the president does continue to go forward with it, expect democrats to try to defund it in the next spending bills and this fight is going to be with us for quite a while. very cheerful. jake, this obviously the president said he ll veto this. the reality is it s largely irrelevant and not decided in congress and putting republicans in the senate in a tough spot. it does. you could tell my mcconnell to read the tea leaves one of my favorite parlor games. that is to me mcconnell saying on this one we have to unfortunately let the chips fall where they may and people vote how they need to vote and i won t strong arm anybody. that s how i read that. i think senate republicans, the sense i got and the body
let s get more perspective from former u.s. attorney, our senior legal analyst, fareed ferrara. thanks so much for joining us. you worked with the fbi on probably a daily basis. if you were vegtding ainvestigaf this, how would go you about it? a couple of things off the top. see how easy it is to do an investigation? after all of this objection and outrage about the impropriety of doing a supplemental investigation of brett kavanaugh, as soon as one senator, jeff flake, decided at the last minute his conscience told him it would be better to have an investigation, lo and behold, it is not that big a deal. mcconnell is okay, the president is okay with it, spoke kindly about it. that s one point, too. i was the u.s. attorney in the southern district of new york but we only dealt with criminal investigations. it is important to remember here what is going on with respect to brett kavanaugh and the additional fbi inquiry over the next week is not to figure out whether a crime was committ
majority leader mitch mcconnell. a source tells me mcconnell made a delay, an fbi investigation is not going to make things any easier, but the reality is this, wolf. mcconnell and republican leaders had no choice. without flake, without senator susan collins, without senator lisa murkowski he does not have the votes and he had to cede to flake s demand. the vote will be delayed until the fbi comes back with its findings, but for the time being pretty much everybody up here who thought there would be a vote as soon as tuesday will have to wait. good report. thank you very much. now to the white house and more on the president officially ordering this new fbi investigation. let s go to our chief white house correspondent jim acosta. jim, a lot has changed over the past 24 hours, the president now launching this new investigation. reporter: that s right, wolf. something that the white house was not receptive to last week, they re not standing in the way of it now. an incredible tur
