THE newly appointed chairman of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), retired army major general Melquiades Feliciano, has ordered a halt to ongoing initiatives and procurement proceedings for the water utility’s bulk water projects.
3 new members are appointed to the board of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, including Melquiades Feliciano, Aristotle Batuhan, and Nelson Yuvallos. This is in response to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) ignoring their request to issue a “certificate of no objection” to the termination of MCWD chairman Jose Daluz III and board members Miguelito Pato and Jodelyn May Seno's services. Rama has tasked the City Legal Office to assist the new members and suggested that Feliciano be elected as the new MCWD chairman.
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is urging customers to dispose of their collected septic wastes at other accredited facilities following the temporary suspension of the operation of its septage treatment plant (STP) in the North Reclamation Area (NRA). The treatment plant at the NRA was shut down on Oct. 11, 2023, following a stoppage order from the Environmental Management Bureau 7 due to effluent contamination. However, the MCWD targets to reopen the facility by the middle of November, as its contractor is currently rehabilitating the plant.
