The base will be built on derelict land off Shidas Road in Oldbury, opposite Sandwell Council’s tip. WORK is set to begin this month on a multi-million-pound ambulance hub for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) after Sandwell planners approve the scheme. The base will be built on derelict land off Shidas Road in Oldbury, opposite Sandwell Council’s tip, replacing a much smaller facility in West Bromwich. The 76,000 sq ft hub will house around 350 ambulance staff, a facility for the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), fleet maintenance and vehicle preparation areas, WMAS’ Education and Training Academy and central stores.
