Dave Frederick Chase Boyle This shortstop heading to Delaware State on a baseball scholarship lost his junior season during the pandemic spring. Chase was on the Milton majors team coached by Rusty Rauch that went to the Eastern Regionals when he was 12. Last winter, the 6-foot-2 versatile athlete with great hands and serious ups stayed fit by playing basketball for the Golden Knights of Sussex Central. During last Friday night’s football game at Smyrna, with his team trailing 34-32 with five seconds remaining, Jon Boat Johnny Wells elected to throw the fading fly to Chase in the corner of the end zone. Chase caught the ball in stride with no bobbles or wobbles for a 38-34 Sussex Central victory and a berth in the Division I state finals Saturday, Dec. 19, against Middletown. Chase’s older sister Rylee Shockley is a senior at Lebanon Valley College. Younger sister Mckenna Boyle plays field hockey, basketball and softball at Central. He has an older sister Gabrielle who is 24. H
