CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A large crowd gathered January 9, at the corner of Ridge Street and McIntire Road, in Charlottesville, to voice their anger over the events that unfolded at the Capitol this week.
Over 100 demonstrators were on hand with signs to rally for the removal of President Trump. Organizers of the event from Indivisible Charlottesville say even though Trump may be out of office soon, “Trumpism,” is alive and well.

A sudden spike in Charlottesvilleâs homicides have police urging residents to âstay vigilantâ

There have been four major shootings in Charlottesville since November â two of which are what police are calling âambush-styleâ attacks, where the perpetrators fired dozens of bullets at someone.Â
This sudden rash of shootings â three of which were homicides â is uncharacteristic for a city thatâs averaged less than three homicides in a year, and it has police urging residents to be cautious.
âWe donât normally have 25, 30 casings in a roadway,â said James Mooney, Charlottesvilleâs assistant police chief. âThis is out of the ordinary, is what I would say. And I donât know whatâs driving this.â
