Peters said the design needed to be unique to the challenges for what will be the second race impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 43-year-old race which normally occurs the second Sunday in July took place virtually last year Sunday, Sept. 13, due to the pandemic, after initially being pushed back; though some runners unofficially ran the course on its original July 12 date last year.
Ryan McGrogan, whose Utica-based company McGrogan Design created logos for the 2019, 2020 and now the 2021 races, said he and Peters came up with the idea of the finish line being symbolic. So I kind of took it and ran with it, he said.
