mcconnell acknowledged that biden actually won the 2020 election. he s been calling him names. there is a faction inside the senate republican conference that is unhappy with mcconnell. like five, ten members out of 50. or at least 49. so i mean there are some unhappy members. they re unhappy unhappy senators, unhappy with the election and they re, you know, they re looking to blame somebody. rick scott is one of these. rick scott was the chair of the nrse who wouldn t get involved, yeah, the group that he lekt senate republicans, he wouldn t. he wouldn t get involved in primaries like mcconnell wanted him to, and you ended up with blake masters in arizona, mehmet oz, don bolduc in new hampshire. they lost winnable races. mcconnell was saying, i m not to blame for this. it s trump and scott, he s saying are the ones that are actually to blame. i think the mcconnell camp, we
squarely in the pence/mcconnell camp, certain denunciation must be unequivocal. his response, is as mid-terms draw close in 2024 looms large, choices will have to be made, lines will be drawn, for me, it is trump. and, of course, you know, dan, he told the january 6th committee key information damaging to trump. he kamg out and answered the questions honestly and said trump tried coerce pence into overturning the election. he says for me, it is trump, in referring to 2024. what do you say to that? well, i say look, we have to have our courage and the point that breaks us and makes us, look, this is enough, this is enough. we got to start over. we got to look in what direction the country will move on. i think a lot of these people, look, everybody is looking no for the trump comeback. i m looking for the trump comeback.
again or stoeve bannon s influence has waned? and steve bannon still talks to the president. this is due to the frustration, the anger of the mcconnell camp in the republican party, the bannon wing of the republican part. what s interesting about the majority leader s comments is he goes after bannon from alabama. yet president trump himself also supported roy moore in alabama and campaigned in that effort, went down to pensacola, florida, at least, and endorsed roy moore in different ways. yet mcconnell directs his ire at bannon. that s because bannon is a threat to the republican majority in the senate because bannon wants to have primary challengers in the incumbents, and that s why they re going after bannon. when the president fired mike flynn, he called him late at
same poll finds his approval rating is very low with voters. what are the major factors in his disapproval and do you think that he can rebound through 2014 in november? that latest poll didn t go too much into why people felt that way other than, you know, they asked about preferences. i think the number to take away is 31. that was mcconnell s positive job approval rating and that is also barack obama s positive job approval rating in kentucky where of course, obama lost in 2012 by 23 points. when obama and mcconnell have the same job approval rating, there s obviously a warning sign for the mcconnell camp. mcconnell s been around a long time and he s already been subject to a barrage of ads both from he s had matt bev ingo after him and he s had other groups who are against mcconnell going after him and the race has
shift in the senate where they are normally known as being the grown-ups in the room with the house. and you have the tea partyiers and cruz and paul and rubio who are now doing these quasifilibusters. what is the feeling from senator mccain and mcconnell how this is playing out? i can only imagine they are probably a bit frustrated? reporter: mitch mcconnell is fascinating, somebody who literally figured out the fiscal cliff issue the end of last year with joe biden in a room and got it down. he played the elder statesman role. he has not been out front in terms of these issues and it was not taken well in the mcconnell camp where he was actively opposing ted cruz during thinks quasi-filibuster, whatever you want to call it. guys like mcconnell and lamar alexander, i go back to what i
