MAGIC VALEY â Many communities throughout the nation are still facing hardships because of COVID-19. Some of these hardships either emerged or magnified during the pandemic.
The Idaho Foodbank says in years before the pandemic they distributed around 3 million pounds of food statewide through their mobile pantry program. Now that is just enough food to distribute throughout southeast Idaho.
PacifiCorp Foundation, a nonprofit arm of Rocky Mountain Power, is giving $35,500 in grants to seven different organizations in the Gem state to help combat these struggles.

SALT LAKE CITY (May 10, 2021) Even as COVID-19 vaccines roll out across the country, many communities are still facing challenges from the pandemic and the organizations that support them are still seeing unprecedented demand.
In spite of the odds, local programs that address critical issues such as food insecurity, homelessness, domestic violence, child abuse, elder issues, mental health and community safety have continued to find creative new ways to deliver help quickly and safely, even while facing additional budget constraints.
As part of the company’s commitment to supporting its communities, PacifiCorp Foundation, a nonprofit arm of Rocky Mountain Power, is donating more than $525,000 across the six states it serves. McCAMMON – A community garden project getting underway in McCammon aims to give elementary students a hands-on learning experience.
Construction on the half-acre garden is slated to begin later this summer next to Mountain View Elementary at 704 Center Street.
Aaron Hunsaker is one of seven people on the McCammon Action Council, the committee that’s spearheading the project. He tells EastIdahoNews.com the role the garden will play is still being fleshed out, but he envisions it becoming “an outdoor classroom for the school.”
