The Eastern Cape is bracing for a deluge of snow, rain and freezing temperatures after an official stage 6 weather warning from the SA Weather Service on Sunday. Farmers in Stutterheim and Hogsback welcomed the wet weather, recording more than 60mm of rainfall since Sunday, but poultry farmers in Dikeni fear that the sudden drop in temperatures and extreme load-shedding will result in livestock fatalities.

Eleven Eastern Cape initiates dead, scores admitted to hospitals

A total of 11 initiates have died in the Eastern Cape during this year’s winter traditional circumcision season. Six of the deaths were in the Mhlontlo municipality, two in King Sabata Dalindyebo, another two in Ingquza Hill and one in Mdantsane. A total of 119 initiates were admitted to hospitals for the treatment of complications arising from traditional circumcision.

UDM councillor in hot water after claiming Mbhashe blew R1m on workshop

Mbhashe municipality UDM councillor Nkosinathi Ndlodaka, who in June made claims that his municipality had spent R1m for a policy workshop held in East London with some of that money allegedly spent, against regulations, on alcohol finds himself in hot water. Whistle-blower Ndlodaka will this week be hauled before the council’s public accounts committee to explain his allegations, which have been disputed by the municipality.

Water and sanitation high on Amathole priority list
