During the 2020 pandemic, many automakers stepped up to produce ventilators and other essential medical supplies. To thank medical workers who worked tirelessly last year, Mazda offered free oil changes and even gave away 50 MX-5 Miata 100th Anniversary Special Editions to heroes who helped their communities. Mazda s Essential Car Care Program for healthcare workers was so successful, the company will now offer a new program.
Available now through participating dealers, Mazda North American Operations will once again offer free oil changes, this time for the education community. The program began in July and will run until September 3. Most makes and models are eligible, even for educators who don t drive a Mazda MX-5 Miata or any other Mazda vehicle. During last year s initiative, Mazda mentioned a few exclusions, including exotic cars, classic cars, and vehicles with greater than an eight-quart engine oil capacity.

In 2020, Mazda recognized 50 community-minded problem solvers who dedicated their time and energy to brightening up a gloomy year. These Mazda Heroes were awarded new Mazda MX-5 Miata models for demonstrating what the automaker calls “challenger spirit.” Here’s a look at where a few of these Mazda Heroes are today.
Invisible Hands
When the pandemic struck New York City, NYU student Healy Chait wanted to do what she could to help homebound seniors and immunocompromised people experiencing food insecurity. After searching for an non-profit organization that helps these individuals and not finding such a charity Chait decided to start one. She founded Invisible Hands, an organization that delivers groceries to people in need.

PORTLAND, Ore. Wearing a mask for protection is nothing new for Ursula Hood. She received a kidney transplant in 2011, and doctors recommend she wear PPE to avoid any complications.
“Ever since then, whenever I’m in any crowded space I’ve always worn a mask just to protect myself, said Hood.
When COVID hit she saw an opportunity to share from her experience. We all have to give back to each other, we have to help each other out, said Hood. I’m super grateful for my donor and I was just thinking, well, how can I help the community?”

Mazda Achieves Year-Over-Year Sales Increase Despite Pandemic

We all know that 2020 wasn’t the best year for the auto industry or much of anything else, really. Despite that, Mazda North American Operations managed to achieve a year-over-year sales increase, and better December sales figures compared to 2019. Here’s what else the automaker achieved.

The Mazda crossover lineup did quite well this year, totaling 220,457 units sold. That’s 11 percent more vehicles moved, compared to 2019. The automaker even managed to finish strong, with December 2020 sales figures reaching 25,671 which is 20.8 percent more than were sold in December 2019.
In terms of individual models, the December 2020 was the best month in the CX-5’s history. It managed to sell 17,954 units, which is a 14.1 percent boost compared to the prior December. The CX-9 saw a smaller boost in 2020, with 27, 638 sales, constituting a 2.9 percent increase. But the real star of December
