Help Replenish Mayra Jackson's Art Supplies

Dear Evanston, As you know, Mayra Jackson, Latwian Jackson, and their young children Jordan, 9, and Nicholas, 4, lost their apartment on Judson and Dempster and all their belongings in a fire that gutted their home last Wednesday morning. The family is overwhelmed by and so grateful for the outpouring of support from Evanston residents who have provided clothing, toys, food, and funds. Subscribe Mayra, who is an artist in stained glass, lost all her artwork and supplies in the fire. Evanston resident Jill Miller, who was on her way to work that morning and pulled over to help the family when she saw flames bursting out of the Jackson s apartment, told me how she d often driven past the apartment and noticed the beautiful artwork in the windows.

Strangers pitch in for family that lost everything in fire

Evanston Now Evanstonians step forward to help family in need at the holidays. Fire consuming the apartment at Judson Avenue and Dempster Street Wednesday morning. (EFD photo) “My youngest son lost his favorite blankie.” That’s just one of many items Mayra Jackson, her husband Latwian, and their two sons lost in an apartment fire at Dempster and Judson Wednesday morning. In fact, while they escaped unhurt from the garden level unit, the Jackson family lost basically all of their possessions. “It happened so quickly,” Mayra Jackson says. The Jacksons, including sons Jordan, age 9, and Nicholas, age 4, are now staying with Mayra’s sister while trying to figure out what to do next.
