Upgrades for Lighthouse Parade in Ballina – The Echo

One of the showcase areas of Ballina is about to get a safety and aesthetic upgrade, with the Lighthouse Parade Pedestrian Precinct and Road Safety Project commencing soon. Ballina Council says improved pedestrian and cycling amenity is at the heart of the new safety project set to commence in late April 2021. Mayor David Wright sees Lighthouse Parade as a gateway to the East Ballina recreational zone. ‘Lighthouse Parade is characterised by a residential neighbourhood, the Ballina Surf Club, the Marine Rescue facility, north wall, beach and open spaces,’ he said. ‘The recreational zone is used for swimming, surfing, fishing, walking, cycling, and access to community meeting and dining spaces.’

Ambitious but achievable : Council s Climate Change policy

The document makes it a goal for the council to reduce its organisational greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2030. It also makes it its goal to use 100 per cent renewable electricity for its operations by 2030. These goals were qualified by council staff as ambitious but achievable . The community engagement includes the option of expanding the policy, to incorporate a greater address of community emissions and consideration of cost implications associated with it, based on additional revenue. Council also agreed to examine the creation of a part-time position role to support the implementation of the Climate Change Policy and associated plans and actions through the workforce planning process.
