Former Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup has died
Bob Walkup, former Tucson mayor, has died. The news was confirmed by Walkup s son Jonathan in a Facebook post on Saturday morning.
Jonathan said in his Facebook post, He was everything a dad could be and more. I was/am so proud of him - he was truly an inspiration and my hero.

News 4 Tucson spoke with Bob Walkup back in December. He had just celebrated his birthday. His health was failing him, but he was still flashing his contagious smile. He had been battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
of the community. we support each other. so early on, we thought we needed to have some event on campus that would help the community heal. and gradually it picked up momentum. someone had the great idea, this is a national story, let s see if we can interest someone at the national level. the invitation was sent to the president, and very fortunate that both he and the first lady are coming to share this moment with us. mayor walkup, let me ask you, obviously we care a lot about this community of tucson. what does it mean to tucson to have president obama and mrs. obama come here? well, it s of great significance. and i can tell you that listening to dr. shelton, he gave me a call and said, mr. mayor, we re having a community memorial service and i said, oh, thank you for putting that together. i spent a lot of my time at the hospital, but having the president of the united states join us at a community memorial has extraordinary significance in the healing process.
we have five that are still very critical. part of them is gabby. she s a dear friend of mine. i met with her husband last night. i ve been here most of the night. and i will be here probably most of the day. mayor walkup, what i find so interesting is you call her gabby. so many call her gabby. she seems to be so well known in that community. she s a tucson girl. she grew up there. that is her home city. well, i tell you that what she was doing is what she does the best. she gets her people out on the street corner and has a town hall with people that are just in the area. that s what she does. she was not afraid with that. i ve been with her on many occasions where that s what you do. you go to a shopping center and you meet people. she is great at that, and we are praying for her, and we want her to get back into the political
