Elizabeth River Ferry service purchased two new ferries at a cost of $6.4 million. On Friday, the mayors of Norfolk and Portsmouth were on hand to celebrate the boats and lauded the connection they establish between the two cities.
NORFOLK — The Elizabeth River Ferry service has some new wheels. Local leaders celebrated the arrival of the two newest mock paddle wheel ferries Friday at the Waterside docks. Hampton Roads Transit’s new ferries are slated to go into service in the spring. “This ferry helps to unite our communities and makes us stronger as a result,” Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover said at the ribbon cutting .
