TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Mayor Regina Romero and Council Member Paul Durham released the following statements after Mayor Romero announced a Special Meeting of Mayor & Council on Monday, March 1st at 5:30 p.m. to fill the vacancy of Council Member Durham, whose resignation is effective at 5 p.m. that day.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Mayor Romero and the City of Tucson will be participating in a National Moment of Unity and Remembrance organized by the Biden-Harris Presidential Inaugural Committee to honor the lives of the approximately 400,000 Americans who have lost their lives to COVID-19.
At 3:30 p.m., bells across the nation will ring for four continuous minutes to honor the victims, including the bell at the top of Tucson Fire Central, which will be rung by Mayor Romero and other special guests.
Tucson mayor and council approve bonds sale to fund public safety pensions
TUCSON (KVOA) - At Tuesday’s Regular Meeting, the Tucson Mayor and Council approved the sale of Certificates of Participation to fund the City’s growing obligation to the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System, it announced in a news release Friday. The PSPRS system funds the fire and police personnel pension program, the City said. The PSPRS obligation currently stands at $1.5 billion and is projected to grow to a peak annual cost of $240 million to the City’s General Fund, according to the City.
The strategy, approved by Mayor and Council, addresses the long-term PSPRS obligation by borrowing funding at unusually low interest rates and investing those funds. The investment earnings will be used to fund the pension obligation, the release said. PHOENIX - When Arizona’s 11 presidential electors meet Monday to formally vote for Democrat Joe Biden, they’ll be the focus of intense scrutiny during what is normally an afterthought in America’s elections.
This year’s electors are a diverse group of Democrats chosen by party officials to formalize their rare victory in the state.
Representing the party are three tribal leaders, a female Latina mayor, three labor union leaders, an openly gay Latino county supervisor, a Black member of the state utility regulation commission, the president of a county NAACP chapter and the state party chair, Felecia Rotellini.
