A second attempt to penalize the mayor of Bonfield over recently completed integrity commissioner reports – which largely cleared him of alleged code of conduct and conflict of interest violations – was dismissed earlier this week.
During a virtual council meeting Tuesday evening, Mayor Randy McLaren chose to strike three notices of motion from the agenda, including one from Coun. Eric Foisy recommending a penalty against the mayor.

Council for the Township of Bonfield voted Tuesday to not accept a pair of integrity commissioner reports involving Mayor Randy McLaren after an attempt to penalize him as a result of the investigations failed to pass.
Members of council chose not to officially receive reports from integrity commissioner David King, detailing his investigations into alleged code of conduct and conflict of interest violations on the part of McLaren.

The integrity commissioner ultimately cleared McLaren of most of the allegations, but recommended he apologize to members of council, and to certain members in particular, over comments he made to them last year.
