LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The fallout continues against ERCOT in the wake of last week’s winter storms.
On Tuesday, four board members including Chair Sally Talberg and Vice Chair Peter Cramton, resigned from their positions.
Meanwhile, Lubbock is still on schedule to join the power grid system this summer.
“It’s concerning to me as a citizen and a leader, it’s top of mind,” Mayor Dan Pope said.
In the last week, he has met with the city council, LP&L and state leaders to discuss the city’s future with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas [ERCOT].

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - City of Lubbock officials held a virtual news conference on Tuesday at 4 p.m. regarding the weather and power situations.
Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope said, “Currently the City of Lubbock and Lubbock Power and Light are dedicating all our efforts to ensure Lubbock citizens are safe during this winter weather situation. Assuring our electric and water supply and at the same time providing streets that can be safely traveled by our first responders and citizens remains our top priority,” he said in a statement before the news conference.
Mayor Pope: conservation efforts remain paramount to avoid more blackouts
Electric providers in Lubbock and the South Plains were forced to conduct more rolling outages Tuesday morning, and more are possible as frigid weather lingers over the region.
Mayor Dan Pope said 27 blackouts were initiated and restored as planned. According to LP&L, about 20,000 residents were impacted for an average of about 30 minutes by the rolling blackouts. We may experience future situations which could require further blackouts, Pope said on Tuesday. Our conservation efforts remain paramount.
On Tuesday afternoon, an LP&L spokesman said several hundred customers had been impacted by natural power loss.

Region prepares for transition to ERCOT grid By Blair Sabol | February 16, 2021 at 11:16 PM CST - Updated February 18 at 11:32 AM
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - âWe still plan to join ERCOT later this year. Itâs a path that weâve been on as Lubbock Power and Light and the city of Lubbock since 2015,â Mayor Dan Pope said Tuesday.
A seven year plan to join the stateâs largest electric provider will not be derailed by a historic Texas cold snap, according to Mayor Pope.
The reason for Lubbock joining the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, also known as ERCOT, was to give consumers more choices and better prices.
