Tidal Wave is operating under a temporary permit

The car wash opened in December. Edison Real Estate Three LLC, property owner of the Tidal Wave car wash at 3270 S. Lindbergh Blvd., submitted an amended development plan that changes the lane striping required on the originally approved site plan at the car wash intersection of East Watson Road and South Lindbergh Boulevard. The project was approved in 2018 through a tie-breaker from Mayor Pat Fribis, replacing the derelict Econo Lodge. One condition of approval by the aldermen at that time was reconfiguring the striping on East Watson Road to create a right-turn lane onto Lindbergh Boulevard. But under the plan from aldermen, the traffic lights on the Rott Road side of the intersection would not be properly centered over the traffic lanes. So the lanes were restriped in their current configuration to line up with the mast arm containing the traffic lane.

Sunset Hills aldermen: 3 of the 8 are new

Sunset Hills welcomes three new aldermen to the eight-member board this week following April elections. The incoming aldermen are new to public service, but they are all longtime residents of Sunset Hills. Christine Lieber of Ward 2, Randy Epperson of Ward 3 and Fred Daues of Ward 4 were sworn in during a virtual Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday, April 27. The trio took over the positions of, respectively, former Aldermen Steve Bersche, Nathan Lipe and Mark Colombo. Voters had competitive races in all the city’s wards besides Ward 1. In Ward 2, Lieber defeated Southwest Area Chamber of Commerce board President Marie Davis 58.42 percent to 41.58 percent; in Ward 3, Epperson defeated local business owner Andrew Tolch 56.1 percent to 43.9 percent; while in Ward 4, Daues overcame Bruce Studer 75.14 percent to 24.86 percent.

Water tower in Sunset Hills rejected, then reversed as city questions its zoning power against utilities

Missouri American Water will construct a new, larger water tower on Sappington Barracks Road in Sunset Hills after Mayor Pat Fribis broke a tie for a conditional-use permit over fears of a lawsuit, despite the objections of neighbors. The new larger tower will help provide water for South County south of Interstate 44 to the River des Peres and northwest of Interstate 55.  Fribis broke the tie for the tower after the Board of Aldermen deadlocked 4-4 in a special meeting Jan. 26. Ward 1 Aldermen Ann McMunn and Joe Stewart, Ward 3 Alderman Cathy Friedmann and Ward 2 Alderman Casey Wong voted against the CUP, while Ward 2 Alderman Steve Bersche, Ward 3 Alderman Nathan Lipe and Ward 4 Aldermen Thompson Price and Mark Colombo voted for it. Fribis called for the meeting after aldermen rejected the CUP in a 4-3 vote earlier this month.

April races set in cities, school boards

Candidate filing closed Tuesday for a number of governmental positions that are up for election April 6, setting up several competitive races across South County. One of the trends this year is that many incumbents did not file to run again, so there are a number of new faces across local city and school boards. The Mehlville fire board and the Green Park mayoral seat will see competitive races this year. Incumbent fire board Treasurer Bonnie Stegman is being challenged by a former firefighter. Aldermanic seats in Crestwood, Green Park and Sunset Hills are also up for election, along with three seats on the Grantwood Village Board of Trustees. Green Park and Crestwood will have a number of new faces on the Board of Aldermen, but no competitive races, while Sunset Hills will have competitive races in all four wards. And for the first time in recent memory, Grantwood Village will have competitive races.
