Winter storm expected to drop 16 inches of snow on Danbury area as towns prepare FacebookTwitterEmail Canada geese gather in a field overlooking Danbury Municipal Airport as a mix of snow and rain fell across the Danbury area Monday, a preview Wednesday night’s and Thursday’s predicted major snowstorm..H John Voorhees III / Hearst Connecticut Media A snowstorm beginning Wednesday is expected to temporarily bring things to a halt locally with the National Weather Service forecasting 12-to-18 inches in the Danbury area. As of early Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said it expects about 16 inches in Danbury with snow starting in the afternoon and heavy snow into the evening. The snow is expected to taper off Thursday morning, but a potential for wind damage is a concern with winds expected to be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

(Shutterstock) DANBURY, CT The new mayor of Danbury has a long history with both the city s City Council and Fire Department. Republican Joe Cavo is scheduled to be sworn in as mayor Thursday (weather permitting) as Mayor Mark Boughton transitions into his new job as the commissioner in the state Department of Revenue Services. Cavo is a 35-year Danbury resident. Cavo was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Ridgewood, NJ. In 1985, he moved to Danbury where was hired by the City of Danbury for equipment maintenance. He became the apparatus mechanic for the Danbury Fire Department three years later. He retired from the fire department in 2017, having been superintendent of apparatus since 2006. During his time with the DFD he received certification as a master level emergency technician, and was a member of both the Connecticut and New England Fire Mechanics Associations.
