Following the results of the upcoming elections, he plans on advocating for the wants and needs of all his neighbors as its councilman. Andy Cole will be among the three candidates vying for the seat in the relatively crowded 3rd Ward race. On Thursday, he spoke with the Portsmouth Timesand shared his vision for his hopeful four-year term. “I have never been a politician and have never wanted to be a politician,” he said in a phone interview. “Portsmouth means a lot to me, I met my wife here, my whole family is here. I have seen a lot of great things happening here in Portsmouth.”

At the request of Community Development Director Tracy Shearer, the council went ahead with authorizing the submittal of a grant application due June 1 and accepting that grant and obligations if funded. Council first toiled with the notion of tabling the resolution before all six council members voted in favor. With this vote, the city could receive up to $40,782 through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Grant, money of which would go to the Market Square Pavilion.

PORTSMOUTH Families and friends out-and-about in Portsmouth, whether it be shopping at River Town Antique Mall or eating at Sonora’s Mexican Grill, have been required since July to be accompanied by one thing: masks. Saturday marks eight months to-the-date since the city council moved forward with its mandate, 10 days before Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement that masks would be required throughout the state.
