Total COVID-19 cases in Metuchen reach 510, mayor warns of post-holiday spike
METUCHEN – Mayor Jonathan Busch warns of post-holiday spike in COVID-19 cases after reporting 13 new cases in one day.
“We began the month of December with 281 cases and we are now at 510 total cases,” he said in a social media post on Jan. 2. “Let’s be clear, we all know what needs to be done and we are not doing enough of it. We all want to be with friends and family outside of our household, but those are the very interactions that spread the virus. We need to make better choices.”

METUCHEN – Mayor Jonathan Busch and Borough Council members vowed to continue Councilman Todd Pagel’s energetic passion for the environment, climate change, pedestrian and bicycle safety, infrastructure and transportation.
“It’s been a true pleasure serving with all of you and serving the people of Metuchen these past three-and-a-half years,” Pagel said. “I look forward continuing to advocate as I leave council as a resident working with groups, Bike-Walk Metuchen, Metuchen Downtown Alliance and [Metuchen Youth For Equity and Racial Injustice].”
Busch said Pagel’s enthusiasm and positive outlook during his term on the council has been “incredibly refreshing.”
“You don’t get that a lot in government,” he said.
