Corning to add LED streetlights with help from NYSEG

People will soon begin to see the City of Corning in a different light, literally.  The city and New York State Electric and Gas have joined forces to transition the near 1,700 city streetlights to LED technology, not only to save money, but also because of the increased safety that residents feel with more visible lights in their neighborhood.   Corning City Manager Mark Ryckman said the Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures benefits will include energy preservation, more illumination and less frequent maintenance.  “We anticipate work to install the new lighting will commence later this summer,” Ryckman said. “We have experienced regular streetlight outages as the current lights and fixtures age. This program will substantially increase reliability.”
