Town of Elberta makes offer on Regions Bank building Posted
By Jessica Vaughn
ELBERTA - The Town of Elberta council voted unanimously to approve Mayor Jim Hamby to make an offer of $250,000 for the Regions Bank building located on the corner of Highway 98 and Main Street. It was recently announced the branch would be closing in May 2021 and the building would be going up for sale.
The town was contacted by the real estate agent to inquire about their interest in purchasing the building for $250,000. The appraisal on the building and land came in at $315,000. Other interested parties have made offers on the location, and if the town’s offer is declined, Hamby says they cannot afford to enter into a bidding war. Plans are to aim for a closing date on or around June 4, shortly after Regions ceases operations within the branch.

Elberta prepares for fun February events Posted
By Jessica Vaughn
ELBERTA - The Town of Elberta is gearing up for two fun annual events. First off will be the Annual Mardi Gras Parade, rolling through the streets of downtown Elberta on Saturday, Feb. 13. Lineup begins at 1:30 p.m., with the parade beginning at 2. The route for the parade will be largely the same as previous parades, with one small change.
“We’re going to go ahead and extend the parade route, so instead of turning here at the church [left on Oak Street] we’re going to go all the way to Kichler Circle,” said councilmember Vicky Norris. “That should help with additional spacing people may be concerned about, allowing for more social distancing.”

Where do Elberta projects stand at the close of 2020? Posted
By Jessica Vaughn
ELBERTA - With 2020 coming to a close, Elberta has multiple ongoing projects within town. One major project for the town is the Sportsplex, which will soon have lights placed in fields one and six. Field one will be a large baseball field and field six will be the girls’ softball field. If both fields are completed by February, Elberta High School seniors, the first senior class the high school has seen, will be able to play in their hometown fields.
