Waterville’s O’Leary’s Fitness closing, will restructure as nonprofit
The boxing gym located at 192 College Ave. will close Feb. 17, 2021, as owner Mike Leary looks for a new space and transitions the gym to nonprofit status.

WATERVILLE O’Leary’s Fitness will shut its doors Feb. 17, but owner Mike Leary said the gym is not going away.
Instead, the 54-year-old Fairfield native plans on transitioning the gym to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit while finding a new location due to challenges the coronavirus pandemic confronted him with.

WATERVILLE The city is in good shape financially, a firm that did an audit of the city’s fiscal year 2020 reported to the City Council Tuesday.
Erik Nadeau, of Nicholson, Michaud & Nadeau certified public accountants, gave an overview of financial statements in the 58 page report which says the total budgeted revenues for the year were $42,969,890, and actual revenues were $43,301,073, resulting in a positive variance of $331,183. Total budgeted expenditures were $43,499,890 and actual expenditures were $42,407,208, resulting in a positive variance of $1,092,682. For the year, the general fund had an increase in fund balance of $893,865, the report says.

WATERVILLE The chairman of the Waterville Republican Committee says he doesn’t know who posted a message recently on the committee’s Facebook page that falsely suggested Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election while also downplaying the Jan. 6 deadly rampage on the U.S. Capitol and listing a string of conspiracy-theorist grievances.
A member of that committee posted the message on the party’s Facebook page on Saturday, Jan. 9, and it was later removed, according to Chairman Shaun Caron, who says he does not know who posted it.
