⢠Even though Abby Christian is not technically employed by the city of Tupelo, her fingerprints are almost certain to be all over the All-America City within the next year.
Christian, a 37-year-old native of Tupelo, is providing grant writing and administration services for Tupelo through a contract between the city and Three Rivers Planning & Development District, an economic and workforce development agency in Northeast Mississippi, where she is actually employed.
Christianâs job requires her to complete grant applications to organizations or government agencies on behalf of the city of Tupelo and to monitor the applicationsâ progress. Funds awarded from grants can often help the city offset costs for projects or provide the city with upgraded tools and equipment.

⢠As municipal election candidates continue to qualify, outgoing Mayor Jason Shelton doubled down on previous announcements that he will not seek a third term as mayor of the All-America City.
Shelton, a Democrat, said during his âMayorâs Reportâ at Tuesdayâs City Council meeting that rumors have surfaced claiming he has secretly mounted a campaign to keep his seat. Shelton vigorously denied these rumors.
âI will not be a candidate for mayor this year,â Shelton said, batting down any suggestion that he has reversed his electoral plans.
Sheltonâs stalwart insistence that heâll stay out of the race underscores the stakes of this yearâs mayoral campaigns: an open seat in Mississippiâs sixth largest city, known for its vibrant economy and robust civic fabric.
TUPELO ⢠The City Council last week confirmed Orlando Ivy to a post on the police advisory board, where Ivy hopes to encourage a positive relationship between the police department and city residents amid an ongoing national reckoning over law enforcement tactics, especially in communities of color.
Ivy, 63, was confirmed 6-1 to the advisory board on Tuesday night. The lone opposition vote came from Ward 6 Councilman Mike Bryan, who opposes all nominees to the advisory board and opposes the existence of the advisory board itself.
Ivy described himself as an optimist and said the advisory board needs to be a forward-looking group.
