On Tuesday, dozens of people filled city council chambers. Many of them had plenty to say concerning Columbus Police Chief Freddie Blackmon and the recent severance package he was offered just one day after he presented the council with a strategic plan.
'It was understood from the beginning of this discussion that this wasn’t a proposed long-term solution to our continuing water woes, but a possible short-term step to mitigate a likely water shortage again this summer. For those not in the know, we still don’t have a plan – unless you are hoping it rains throughout the summer.'
'The status quo has not served us well, I agree but I feel there is a chance Henderson will put our public health at risk if he takes this impatient approach.'
'We live in a coastal rainforest and it appears we have not been using our imaginations to capture the runoff. I truly hope that the council under Sechelt’s Mayor Henderson will get behind his initiative to finally bring fresh water solutions to the District of Sechelt.'
'It’s time for the SCRD board and staff to get behind Mayor Henderson’s approach – get us the supply now, even if it’s just for a few years. And rely on industry experts to protect us from contamination (if there is any) and other worries and listen to their advice on how to build the best solutions for the long term.'
