Shovel hits the ground for a 10 million dollar build at Holy Rosary

The shovel is in the ground for the construction of the new wing at the Holy Rosary High School.
MLA’s Colleen Young, Garth Rowswell and Mayor Gerald Aalbers joined with the School’s community to bring greetings and lend a hand for the symbolic effort.
Five years of planning have culminated in the start of the new wing that will have 16 classrooms and is costing $10 million.
2020 financial statement shows City has a surplus

Lloydminster City Council has accepted and approved their Consolidated Financial statements for 2020.
The document which was prepared by local chartered professional accountants WLS Wilkinson Livingston Stevens LLP and was presented to Council on Monday April 26th.
On the plus side, the report shows a rise in financial assets of about $13.8 million with liabilities close to $3 million. This gives an increase in net financial assets of about $11 million.
The City has a surplus of $9.9 million for the year which was more than double what had been budgeted. Municipal taxes are slightly down from last year and user fees have shown a sharp decline off what was budgeted.
Ground broken on new Lloydminster Fire Hall

Shovels are in the dirt, and construction on the new Lloydminster Fire Hall has begun.
The new location for Fire Hall #1 will be at 3752-47 Street, built on an area of City-owned land that was earmarked as having quicker access to major roads, having lands allowing for expansion and causing fewer noise complaints. It will replace the existing hall when it is finished.
A virtual groundbreaking ceremony was held online on April 21st, with Mayor Gerald Aalbers, Fire Chief Leigh Sawicki and Chandos Construction Senior Project Manager Michael Lewis. Chandos, an Edmonton construction company, will be coordinating on the project with their Red Deer offices.
City lays out plans for summer construction projects, awards two contracts

The City has laid out some plans for the summer’s construction season, including where is to be worked on and who will do it.
At the April 12th council meeting, the city announced they will be giving a contract to ASL Paving to work on several areas of repair in the city. In total, the City will pay 1.2 million dollars, with a 15 per cent contingency of $191,000 if needed for delays or other costs on the project.
The work will be done on the Mid-Block Lane South of 43 Street between 57 Avenue and 59 Avenue, 49 Avenue from 38 Street to 42 Street, 57A Avenue from 27 Street to 29 Street, 18 Street and 52 Avenue Intersection and 50 Avenue West Side Service Road from 57 Street to 60 Street.
