Our recommendation for Garland mayor
Incumbent Scott LeMay faces Roel Garcia.
Two men are vying for the mayoral seat in Garland: incumbent Scott LeMay and political novice Roel Garcia. Both have deep roots in the city, but LeMay is by far the most prepared and informed candidate, with a long track record in city government. He easily gets our nod for a second term.
LeMay, a 53-year-old retail store planner at The Container Store, has participated in city policymaking since 2007, when he was appointed to the city plan commission. In 2013, he won a seat in the Garland City Council representing District 7. LeMay served his district during a particularly contentious period at City Hall that was marked by disagreements between then-Mayor Douglas Athas and a majority of the council. Voters rewarded LeMay’s experience with the mayoral office in 2019.
