In a surprise move, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has announced S. Vani Devi, daughter of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, as its candidate for the Hyderbad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar Graduate MLC constituency on Sunday.
Since the last day for nominations is February 23, the decision comes as a surprise for the party workers and even Ministers and MLAs. The indications from the party so far was that it would stay away from the elections in this constituency and extend support to Independent candidate K. Nageshwar, which was opposed within the party quite strongly.

Party sources said the mayoral candidate has been decided and it could be a woman corporator from the Reddy community.
Hyderabad: The TRS government is likely to facilitate election of two Deputy Mayors at the mayoral polls on February 11. It has already assured Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin that he could continue in his post while there is pressure on the party leadership to accommodate other communities too.
For instance, the leadership reckons that it would be hard for the ruling party to take on the Opposition, especially the BJP, if representation is not given to the Backward Class communities.

After public uproar over the decision to buy 17 iPhones for outgoing mayor, deputy mayor and other members of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) standing committee, the state government on Friday put the decision on hold. Arvind Kumar, secretary, urban development said he spoke to GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and the decision to buy iPhones had been put on hold indefinitely.
Outgoing GHMC standing committee, at its meeting on Thursday, decided to gift 17 iPhone 12 Pro Max (512 GB), each costing Rs 1.6 lakh, to Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasihuddin and 15 other members. The committee, the highest decision-making authority in GHMC, approved a budget of Rs 27.23 Lakh for purchasing the gadgets.
