Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Mayor Beth Weldon said the initial CBJ COVID-19 vaccine clinic was successful.
She said 1,182 doses were administered. There was a waiting list of 200. She didn t know for sure but figured about a hundred from that list were contacted.
A follow-up clinic to administer second doses is scheduled for February 5 through the 7 at Centennial Hall.
The mayor said they are seeing a slight uptick of positive cases and their seven-day case average pushed them to the high level.
Two cases were reported in Juneau Monday.
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The State of Alaska calls the shots on how COVID-19 vaccines are distributed.
Juneau Mayor Beth Weldon would like to see that changed. She said on the KINY Morning Show that they have tried to work with the state in seeking more control over allocations since they know more about the community. But so far the state is choosing to do it themselves through their allocation committee, the mayor said
The state will receive 52,900 COVID-19 doses this month. About 16,000 doses are allocated to the Indian Health Service. Governor Mike Dunleavy says the state will continue to accelerate and offer the vaccine to senior citizens and elders who have experienced the greatest illness and death.

City Manager Rorie Watt and Mayor Beth Weldon talked about that on Action Line. Watt said they received about a thousand doses. We don t know what comes next. The popular question in the public is when am I eligible. So we ll be pushing information out. We don t know when we re getting the next waves of vaccine.
He said first responders and hospital workers will be first in line to receive the vaccine. The hospital, city hall, and state health officials determine who receives the priority. Mayor Weldon added that they also have a steering committee in their Emergency Operations Center that is making those determinations.
