BURLINGTON CITY The former New Jersey National Guard Armory building could transform into new apartments, new businesses, or perhaps even a new gym for recreational sports like basketball, according to Mayor Barry Conaway.
City officials are not picky, Conaway added. They just want a developer who will focus on the community and get the old, unoccupied building on the tax rolls.
The city is hoping to receive applications for the purchase and reuse of the property at 559 High Street. If it does, Conaway and a few other officials are going to score them and hand off the scores to the common council.

“I don’t want this to come across as another not-in-my-backyard thing,” Dragish said. “The main thing is this entire area is reliant on the water table for our water supply. We’re talking about a gas station, 60 parking spots, that’s going to be reliant on well water and septic.”
