Tourist dies when car hits multiple trees in Great Smoky Mountains National Park Mark Price, The Charlotte Observer May 3 A man from South America was killed early Sunday when his car slammed into multiple trees inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, according to a release from the National Park Service. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Gian Montano Spagnolo of Venezuela, officials said. Investigators say the crash happened around 3 a.m. on a road known as the Spur, near the intersection of Caney Creek Road. Spagnolo s 2008 Nissan was traveling south on the Spur when he lost control . veered off the roadway and collided into multiple trees, officials said.

Motorcycle fatality on Clingmans Dome Road   Great Smoky Mountains National Park Rangers responded to a report of a motorcycle wreck on Clingmans Dome Road at 4:08 p.m. on Sunday, April 18.  Maynoy Alexander Ardon, age 20, of Guatemala, was traveling down Clingmans Dome Road when he lost control of his motorcycle near Collins Gap. He veered off the roadway and landed approximately 100 feet below the embankment. Bystanders were able to reach Ardon and performed life-saving efforts until emergency responders arrived. Ardon succumbed to his injuries on scene and was pronounced deceased at 4:33 p.m. Cherokee EMS and Fire also responded and assisted with recovery operations. Ardon was transported by Appalachian Funeral Home of Sylva. No other vehicles or visitors were involved in the accident. No additional details are available at this time.

He veered off the roadway and landed about 100 feet below the embankment. Bystanders were able to reach Ardon and performed life-saving efforts until emergency responders arrived. Ardon died at 4:33 p.m.

He ran off the road and landed approximately 100 feet down an embankment.  Witnesses were able to reach Ardon and tried to give him medical attention until rangers and first responders arrived, but he died of his injuries
