SINGAPORE, May 6, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Trip.com Group, a leading travel service provider, has released its 2021 May Day Results and Travel Trends, which reveal a strong recovery in China s domestic travel market during the May Day Holiday (1 – 5 May).
The five-day break has unleashed the customer demand for long-distance domestic travel. According to the data, the total number of bookings for the May Day Holiday shows an increase of 30+% in comparison with the same period in 2019, and represents a YOY increase by approximately 270%.
Trip.com Group has recorded a significant increases across many business areas during the May Holiday. According to the data, hotel booking GMV (Gross Merchandizing Volume) on the platform, for the first three days of the holiday, consecutively broke past records. Compared with the same period in 2019, the single-day number of booking volume increased by 70%.
The daily number of railway passenger trips in China continued to exceed the pre-epidemic level on Monday, the third day of the May Day holiday.
Nearly 13.75 million passenger trips were made on the day, a 3.2-percent increase over the same day in 2019, the China State Railway Group Co. Ltd., the country s railway operator, said.
The country saw 14.72 million passenger trips on Sunday, an increase of 11.6 percent from the same period in 2019. On Saturday, the figure stood at 18.83 million, up 9.2 percent from the 2019 level.
May Day, also known as International Workers Day, is observed on May 1 in China. Many people have chosen to travel during the holiday that lasts from May 1 to 5 this year.

It is estimated that Chinese travelers made 56.37 million domestic trips on May 1, the start of the five-day May Day holiday, official data showed Saturday.
