is seeking to compel a lawyer for the former president to testify before the grand jury. according to a source familiar with the matter. prosecutors alleged in a sealed filing that they have evidence that some of trump s conversations with the attorney were in furtherance of a crime. the special counsel is reportedly asking a judge to invoke the crime fraud exception. and force an attorney to testify under oath about conversations between him and his client which in this case, would be evan corcoran and one donald trump. the new york times which was first to report the news at the special counsel is zeroing in on this quote, whether trump or his associates obstructed justice in failing to comply with demands to return a trove of government material he took with him from the white house upon leaving office, including hundreds of documents with classified markings. one potentially very important piece of evidence determining whether the ex-president or his attorneys obstructe

materials were likely concealed and removed from mar-a-lago as part of an effort to obstruct the federal investigation. correspondent david spunt starts us out tonight. is he in palm beach, florida. good evening, david. john, good evening to you. on the eve of a federal court hearing, where president donald trump, former president donald trump s legal team will appear before a judge to ask for a special master to go over documents seized from mar-a-lago earlier this month, the justice department is laying out a new timeline with brand new details. federal investigators focusing on potential obstruction of justice over the handling of classified material taken during a day long search of former president trump s florida estate. in this court filing, the justice department says, quote: government records were likely concealed and removed from the storage room and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government s investigation. this after the trump team was served a
june. about that investigators say this, quote, the fbi uncovered multiple sources of evidence indicating that the response to the may 11th grand jury subpoena was incomplete and that classified documents remained at the premises. the government also developed evidence that government records were likely concealed and removed from the storage room and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government s investigation. all of this is what led doj to obtain that search warrant for mar-a-lago. during that search agents found more than 100 classified documents at trump s residence. here s what doj says about that misfiling. quote, that the fbi in a matter of hours recovered twice as many documents with classification markings as the diligent search that the former president s counsel and other representative his weeks to perform calls into serious question of representations made in the june 3rd certification and cast doubt on the extent of cooperation in this matter. this
