A Tyne Valley leisure complex has turned to crowdfunding in an attempt to get its swimming pools ready for the 2021 season. Haltwhistle Swimming and Leisure Centre, which is registered a charity and relies solely on grants and donations to keep operating, saw its three pools closed throughout last year due to the restrictions following the Covid-19 pandemic. With government guidelines expected to remain in place this summer in some form, the centre is expecting another unusual period of trade, although does hope to open all of its facilities to the public. As a result, the pool has set a £3,000 target via crowdfunding that will go towards maintaining the pools, leisure centre and gym and ensure that it can re-open following the end of the current lockdown, even if it’s at a reduced capacity and with social distancing measures in place.
