Council officially open new Corowa Memorial Plaza
A revamped and activated Memorial Plaza in Corowa was opened to the public on Friday evening, with features of the new space amazing attendees.
The Memorial Plaza upgrade project, led by the Federation Youth Council included installation of public Wi-Fi, café style and bench seating, signage, an electronic community notice board, wooden panel roofing, flood and festoon lighting, a drinking fountain and a new interactive mural by artist, Kade Sarte, inspired by the Murray River.
Following the official opening there was a community youth led free event with live music from acoustic performer Molly Williams, tapas from Barrel and Brew and outdoor games.
Whilst remaining a surprise until the day, the nominations have been made public.
Corowa Rutherglen Virtual Relay for Life, and the 41st Annual Corowa Swim-in and Military Vehicle Gathering will contest the community event of the year.
Local Achiever Award nominees in each town or village who go beyond to make their own community place a great place to live are Kathryn Bruce, Vivian Spilva, Paul Carroll, Casandra Hughes, Meredith Miegel and George Jenkins. All seven will vie for the Federation Council Citizen of the Year.
The Federation Council Young Citizen of the Year will be decided between Maxim Blockley, Zali Peters and Dylan Forge.
